Taylor delivers winning NEBL debut for Towers

London Towers kicked off their Northern European Basketball League campaign with a nail-biting 77-75 win over Ventspils of Latvia in Den Helder, Holland.

It was a great result for the Towers' whose first NEBL game against Lithuanian side Siauliai was postponed yesterday because the Towers were grounded in London by treacherous weather conditions.

Up 41-36 at half-time, Towers saw their lead slowly disappear, as Ventspils rallied, and finally drew level at 75-75. With six seconds to go,
Towers point guard, Eric Taylor netted a two-pointer to give Towers the lead.

Ventspils attempted a three-pointer in the dying seconds, but came up empty handed to leave Nick Nurse's side victorious.

Eric Taylor top scored for Towers with 19 points, Jerry Hester netted 14, while Tom Wideman added 11. Taylor and Wideman both pulled in 8 rebounds. Kendrick Warren did not play.

"I'm really happy, we did a really good job," said Nick Nurse expressing his delight.

Towers play Yugoslavian champions Buducnost this Thursday in the Euroleague at Crystal Palace.
