Nurse voted Coach of the Year

Nick Nurse, Head Coach of the Dairylea Dunkers Champions Manchester Giants, has been voted the BBL Coach of the Year for the 1999/2000 season.

The 32-year-old American, who hails from Iowa, led his side to the Northern
Conference title in the Dairylea Dunkers Championship, before winning the
Championship Final last Saturday, defeating Pertemps Bullets Birmingham 74-65 at Wembley Arena.

Nurse remarked, "It's a reflection of what our team accomplished this year. I think we have done a good job for a couple of years here. The guys have worked really hard and that's the thing that I have been most proud of that and the way we have played defence and rebounded the ball."

Nurse has been named for the award thanks to votes cast by members of the
media, both national and regional.

The award means that Manchester Giants have swept up in the BBL awards this season, with star forward Tony Dorsey recently named as the Player of the
Year.

Nurse added, "Tony Dorsey is a great player and he certainly has been a big part of what we have accomplished this year, there's no doubt about it.

"It's a great ending to the season. It could have been a lot different if there had been a different result last Saturday or even a couple of different results earlier in the season. It's nice for our team to receive some recognition for what they have
achieved."

Giants season included 45 victories in all competitions, making them the first team to have won so many games in one season. That included 31 wins in the regular season of the Dairylea Dunkers Championship, as well as progression to both the Classic Cola Cup and uni-ball trophy finals and then their winning appearance in the Championship Final.
