Sydney Olympics 2000 Jets Cameron set for Dream team showdown
Chester Jets' Kiwi star Pero Cameron has admitted to feeling excited about seeing the draw for this autumn's Olympic Games in Sydney. The first-round pairing were announced last week in the host city for both the men's and women's events and New Zealand received a plum tie in their preliminary round pool against the mighty United States Dream Team.
As captain of the so-called Tall Blacks, Cameron will also lead his team into competition against Lithuania, France and 1999 European Champions Italy at the initial stage with the top four to progress to the quarter-finals.
With his team's pre-game haka destined to grab the attention of the world when it confronts NBA stars like Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan, the Jets centre is looking forward to the experience.
"Being in the same poll as the elite from the NBA is really a bonus for us. The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world and I'm just glad to be part of it. However I'm more excited about the games themselves than going up against the Dream team."
Cameron admits though that his attention will not be fully Sydney-bound until he completes his first season in Chester.
"It's still along way until the whole thing tips off in September, so I try not to think about it too much. However, we're looking forward to putting on some good performances and seeing how it goes."
