A top of the table clash in the Wheelchair Association proved to be quite a
crowd thriller, with visitors Burgerking Limerick stealing a one-point
victory on the buzzer.Dart Killester started well, with Eric Jackson on fire, dunking Killester to
an early 18-8 lead. Limerick's Tommy Walsh took Limerick through the first
quarter, hitting four 3-pointers to push the visitors ahead, 25-26 at the
end of the first quarter. Robert Lynch was equally impressive for Limerick
in the opening quarter. The second quarter was basket for basket, point for point, and with
Limerick's Cleotis Browne having a poor game, Limerick trailed 47-41 going
into half-time. Browne's performance didn't pick up much in the third
quarter, but Limerick battled through it and led 69-67.Cleotis Browne had one of his worst performance's for Limerick to date, with
4/14 two-pointers, 7 turnovers and a low scoring 17 pts at the end of the
game. However Browne came good when it mattered, bringing the game into
overtime and winning the valuable points to put Limerick in second place in
the league table. With 20 seconds on the clock in the final quarter, Killester were up 1point.
Browne was fouled under the basket and received two free throws. To the
horror of the Limerick fans, Browne missed both. Possession to Killester
and there was no mistakes, the home team went up 3points with only seconds
on the clock. It looked to be all over when Browne took possession and
threw up a long ball on the buzzer. Browne made the 3-pointer to tie the
game and the game went into overtime.Again, overtime was basket for basket. With a minute to go, Eric Jackson
picked up his fifth personal foul and left the court. Browne got two free
throws and this time made 2/2. With 2 seconds on the clock Killester led
99-98, and again Browne was fouled. First free throw, Browne made to tie
the game 99-99, second and Limerick could not believe it. Limerick put
another dent in the holders' bid to reclaim the Superleague title.Frosties Tigers v Tyrone Towers
Frosties Tigers Tralee kept up their 100% home record with their 79-57 win
over Tyrone Towers. Frosties played without their inspirational point guard
Barnaby Craddock .
As the game went on it was the Tralee locals Michael Quirke, Kevin
O'Donoghue and John Teahan that proved the difference between the two sides.
Frosties Tigers lead for the entire game but it certainly was not Tralee's
performance of the season and the Cup next weekend should prove more of a
challenge.Neptune v Tolka Rovers
Although Neptune seemed to be totally dominating the game with 3.30
remaining in the quarter they only held a single point lead 16-15. A Martin
Ahern turnover saw Neptune go inside and baskets from Gamble and Watson and
young Kieran O'Brien opened up a seven point lead as the quarter ended
27-20.With 6.35 left in the half and Neptune leading 35-27 Watson picked up his
third foul sat out the remainder of the second quarter. With Watson benched
Chris Doyal picked up some baskets, but with four remaining Neptune
maintained their seven point lead 38-31. Two intercepted passes from Darren
Geaney gave him two lay-ups as the half ended 48-37 in Neptune's favour.Neptune picked up the tempo at the start of the second half which resulted
in some Tolka turn-overs and the Neptune fast breaking game left Gamble,
Watson, Geaney and Noonan all finishing and with one minute remaining they
lead 75-51. Two more lay-ups from Geaney and O'Brien as the quarter ended
79-51.At the start of the last quarter it was evident Tolka were a beaten team as
Neptune ran their bench and they ran out comfortable winners 97-75 and
cemented their position as fifth in the Super League Table.Big Al's Notre Dame v Sx3 Star
Sx3 Star had a great start to the game in the National Basketball Arena
where they will be back against Waterford Crystal for the Cup semi on Friday
night. In the opening minute Marvin Dixon hit a basket and two 3-pointers
to put Star ahead. Jenkins came into the game and brought Big Al's back to
within 2pts of Star at the end of the first quarter. Star led 22-20.Big Al's looked to be in serious trouble in the second quarter when Anthony
Jenkins picked up his fourth personal foul. Ewan McGratten came on for Star
and hit 11 consecutive points to stretch the visitors lead to 5pts, 44-49.Star held their lead going throughout the third quarter finishing 62-68.
The last quarter saw Big Al's come into their own, hitting a total of five
3-pointers in the last ten minutes. Seco Camera hit three 3-pointers to
give Big Al's a much needed victory to see them edge their way back up the
league table.St Vincent's v Waterford Crystal
Vincent's were on fire in the first quarter of their home clash against
League Leaders Waterford Crytsal. Mick Richardson hit 12 points in the
opening quarter to allow Vincent's build a 16pt lead. Waterford struggled
through the period, with little falling into their baskets. Waterford
missed 14 inside shots and they trailed at the end of the quarter 29-13.Crystal came into the game in the second quarter with two big three-pointers
from Mike Keohane and one from Robert Grant. Waterford reduced the deficit
45-41 at half-time, but it was nothing like the damage they went on to do in
the third quarter.Waterford hit 43 points in the third quarter, 17 of which came from Mike
Keohane. Danger man Keohane was unstoppable from the 3-point line and there
was little Vincent's could do. Vincent's conceded ten 3-pointers in the
third quarter.Vincent's battled back in the final quarter but the closest they were to
come was within 10-points, 81-91 with four minutes to go.
