ESB Men’s Superleague

Esat Business Demons 61 (23) M Beckles 25, J Estick 19, B Clernon 7
Waterford Crystal 67 (35) J Singleton 18, R Gorman 10, A Piper 10

Demons were unable to close up the men’s Superleague when they suffered a home defeat to table-toppers Waterford Crystal on Sunday.  Waterford started well and took an early lead, finishing the first quarter 22-13.

Waterford continued their control in the second quarter and Demons suffered noticeably without Shane Coughlan who sat out the second of his three-game ban.   Crystal pushed ahead and enjoyed a 13-point lead going into half time 35-23.

Demons had a superb third quarter, with Brian Clernon and Mike Beckles upping their game and at the end of the third quarter it was still any one’s game at 45-45.  However Demons were unable to
sustain it and despite James Singleton fouling out in the last quarter, Waterford took the game
67-61 and maintain their position on the top of the league table.

St Vincent’s 88 (49) C Dickerson 31, M Richardson 24
Dart Killester 92 (51) C Davis 26, D Sealy 19

The effects of Christmas were evident on the St Vincent’s side when they ended up on the wrong side of the 88-92 scoreline in the weekend’s Dublin derby game.  Despite top scoring on 31 points, Cory Dickerson was not at his best.  Mike Trimmer hit a mere 4 points in the entire second half, while the usually reliable Stephen McGuirk hit one point from a free throw for the entire game.

The first quarter was basket for basket with Killester taking the lead 31-27 after 10 minutes.
There was little between the teams in the second quarter with Killester maintaining a 3-point lead
going into half time, 49-51.  Things began to fall apart for St Vincent’s when John Kelleher fouled
out early in the third quarter with Steven McGuirk fouling out having played only 26 minutes. Killester took full advantage of the weakened Vincent’s side and took a 9-point lead going into the
final quarter 74-65.

Vincent’s fought hard in the final quarter but were unable to pull it off and four points separated the teams at full time.  Jerome Westbrooks, Chris Davis and Paddy Kelly fouled out in the fourth quarter.
