Gleneagle Lakers 86 81 Tolka Rovers
Gleneagle Lakers picked up a valuable two points following a second half
come back against Tolka Rovers in the National Event Centre in Killarney.
Tolka took an early lead and left Killarney trailing 26-19 at the end of the
first quarter.Killarney battled to find their form in the second quarter. American Mario
Horton made his debut for the Kerry team but it wasn't looking good for the
side as Coy Patterson and Zedrick Smith dominated the court. Tolka
continued their form throughout the quarter and led by 8 points at half time
46-38.The third quarter saw Killarney creep back into the game and they managed to
bring the game within two points going into the final quarter, 59-57. Three
minutes into the final quarter, Killarney pulled ahead for the first time in
the game, thanks to three pointers from Shane Horgan and Billy Gilligan.
With 48 seconds remaining the Lakers enjoyed a 82-78 lead, but a basket from
Smyth reduced the Tolka deficit 82-80. Killarney's bottle was tested in the
closing seconds but Shane Horgan kept his cool, making 4/4 on the line to
help the home team to a 86-81 victory.Waterford Crystal 96 71 Big Al's Notre Dame
Waterford Crystal retain their position on top of the league table after a
deserved home victory against Big Al's. Not the most exciting game in the
league this season by all accounts as Big Al's could, at best, be only
described as lack lustre. Waterford took an early lead, pulling away from
Big Al's and enjoyed a 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter.Crystal continued to dominate in the second quarter and looked like certain
winners going into the half time break, leading 50-30. However Brandon
Hughes stepped up in the third quarter, allowing Big Al's back into
contention and were right back in the game going into the final quarter
69-55.An incident on court led to the automatic disqualification of Terence Wilson
in the final quarter and his presence on court was felt as Waterford Crystal
pulled ahead and any chance Big Al's may have had, slipped away.Dart Killester 109 102 Frosties Tigers
A sensational game in the Irish Wheelchair Association saw Killester come
back from a 25 point deficit to take the game into double overtime and
defeat the giants from Tralee.Killester looked doomed in the opening quarter, allowing Tralee build an
early lead. Kenny McFarland and John Teahan were on fire in the opening and
the home team couldn't stop them. Midway through the quarter Killlester had
managed a mere 6 points whilst Tralee were on a roll with 24 points on the
board. Tralee were 32-12 up at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter showed little improvement from the Killester bench while
Tralee pulled further away 39-14 with six minutes remaining. Eric Jackson
and Chris Davis came into the game at this point and brought it back to 15
points at half time, 50-35.Killester were right back on form in the third quarter and Jackson and Davis
again dominated the court, keeping the usually unstoppable Jermaine Turner
out of the game. Toward the end of the quarter Killester came within 1
point of Tralee but the Kerry men pulled away once more to finish the third
quarter 67-60.Killester were in complete control in the final quarter as Killester pulled
ahead. With less than a minute on the clock, Killester were up by 3 points,
85-82. Schnurer was fouled by Jackson to put him on the line with three
free throws. Schnurer made 3/3 to bring the game into extra time. The
first period of extra time was basket for basket, finishing 95-95 before
entering the second period of extra time. Killester dominated while Tralee
could manage no more. The game finished 109-102 to Killester.
St Vincents 96 94 Abbey Foods Sligo
Sligo will travel home wondering how they could have let this one slip away,
having scored an incredible 62 points at half-time. Vincent's Mike Trimmer
fouled out with over a minute to go in the game and the Dublin team did well
to hang on.
