Throughout their Euroleague campaign, London Towers have struggled. Just not quite like this.
On Thursday night, the Londoners suffered their biggest humiliation in many years, held to just 40 points in a lop-sided 73-40 away defeat to Union Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia on Thursday night.
An early 15-2 tear by the home side saw Towers trail 17-5 in the first quarter. Although the arrears were reduced to six points midway through the second quarter at 29-23, Olimpija - who won 91-58 at Crystal Palace earlier in the season - re-established a ten-point lead at half-time at 33-23.
That advantage was extended in the third period, as Towers were subjected to an 11-4 tear to trail 49-29. London - who scored 11 of their 40 points from the foul line but were a miserly 1/10 from three-point range - saw their scoring all but desert them in the final period as Olimipja ran out winners.
Haris Mujezinovic top scored with 13 points for Olimpija, while Brett Eppehimer bagged 12 for Towers, the only member of his side in double figures.
Elsewhere in Group B, Kinder Bologna all but sealed first place with a 91-81 win over Barcelona. There is a four way tie in second place on 6-3 however. Ülker Istanbul defeated Zalgiris 79-66 to confirm the Lithuanian's exit while Frankfurt killed off Peristeri's chances with a 72-55 home victory.
