Edinburgh Rocks provided
the biggest upset of the 1st round of the ntl:home national cup defeating
the bookies joint favourites Kinder London Towers 86-84 after overtime.
The Rocks trailed
57-37 midway through the third quarter but held the Towers scoreless for
a
six minute period
to get within touching distance before scoring the final seven points to
force
the extra period.
Once in overtime it was all Rocks as they scored the opening 9 points,
including 7 by Damon
Johnson to seal the victory.
"We needed to find
the points from somewhere and Damon gave us them," said Rocks coach Kevin
Wall. "Defensively we didn't start as well as we should have but the shots
started to drop and I felt that we had a chance to come back."

NBL Conference side
Teesside Mohawks 113-101 on Sunday night.
Early on the Mohawks
threatened a scare leading throughout the first quarter to take a 31-22
advantage. The Eagles
however started the second quarter with a 16-7 tear to tie the game and
nearly always enjoyed a double figure advantage from then on. Eagles Jeremy
Hyatt led all scorers in the game with 26 points with EJ Harrison firing
23 for Teesside.

Chester Jets carried
their impressive BBL Championship form into the ntl:home National Cup
with a 90-74 victory
over the Brighton Bears on Sunday night.
After a close first
half the Jets started to find their range from behind the three point arc
starting
the third quarter
with a 11-4 burst to take control at 48-40 and then beginning the final
quarter
with a 18-8 run
to put the game beyond the Bears at 85-67. Jets John McCord led all scorers
in the game with
22 points but it was Pero Cameron who sparked the Jets into action in the
3rd quarter with
a trio of three pointers.

Thames Valley Tigers
booked their place in the ntl:home national cup with a 87-75 road victory
over the struggling
Manchester Giants on Sunday night.
The Tigers broke
the game open with a strong second quarter during which they outscored
their hosts 24-11.
Rick Mickens led the Giants revival with 25 points but the Tigers managed
to
keep them at arms
length throughout.
