Birmingham picked up their 11th BBL Championship success of the season
with an 87-82 victory at home to Northern Conference leaders Chester Jets
on Thursday evening. A 21-4 third quarter tear was the crucial difference
between the teams - it put Bullets 63-46 ahead midway through the quarter.
It followed an earlier
ten-point lead for Jets at 37-27 midway through the second quarter. Chester,
who were without the injured John Thomas, rallied in the fourth quarter,
with a 12-0 run that reduced the arrears to one point at 78-77 with 90
seconds remaining, but they could get no closer.
Rob Paternostro and
Rashod Johnson each bagged 20 points for Bullets, but Chester's Calvin
Davis led all scorers with 31 points.
For Bullets, it is
already the second game of the week after losing in the NEBL, but another
four games in six days to come, Head Coach Lance Randall is not complaining
about the schedule or any injuries that his players are playing with at
present.
“I don’t want these
guys to get any sympathy right now,” he said. “No one will miss any games,
everyone will play just as they are.”
