Chester Jets extended
their lead at the top of the BBL Championship Northern Conference to six
points with a 103-100 victory over Pertemps Bullets Birmingham on Friday
evening.
They edged a close
first half, leading 46-44 and then started the third quarter with the first
six points to lead 52-44. Chester's advantage was up to as many as 12 points
at 68-56, before threes from Brant Bailey and John O'Connell helped trim
the deficit to four points at 77-73 at the end of the third quarter.
Bullets tied the
score at 98-98 with 1.44 to go, but a Hamilton steal and a three point
play from John McCord proved decisive. Hamilton bagged 30 points for Chester,
but Bullets' Brant Bailey led all scorers with 31 points.

Newcastle Eagles
have all but qualified for the BBL Championship play-offs, thanks to a
113-104 success at home to Thames Valley Tigers on Friday night. It was
the visitors who started the brightest, leading 28-20 after the opening
period of play. However, Eagles tied the game at 30-30 four minutes into
the second quarter and some fine offensive play from Jeremy Hyatt helped
Eagles to a 48-42 half-time advantage.
Eagles maintained
their advantage in the third quarter, the closest Tigers managed to get
being three points at 69-66. Hyatt then hit three outside shots in the
fourth to ensure victory.
BBL Player of the
Month Shawn Myers finished as the game's top scorer with 40 personal points
for Eagles; Shawn Jamison added 24 for Tigers.
