Leicester Riders
moved top of the BBL Championship Northern Conference for the first time
ever on Sunday, thanks to an 88-68 win at home to Pertemps Bullets Birmingham.
Riders kept the Bullets
to just ten first quarter points and only 11 in the second period, as they
controlled the game from the outset. Riders led 41-21 at half-time and
maintained their 20-point advantage by the time the final buzzer sounded.
Ralph Blalock and Billy Singleton were the star players, with an impressive
68 points between them - Blalock led all scorers with 39 personal points,
while Bullets' top scorer was Rob Paternostro who bagged 14.

Westfield Sharks
Sheffield won a thrilling overtime battle with Leopards in the BBL Championship
on Sunday afternoon. Englishman Mike Payne bagged a crucial three pointer
with just five seconds on the clock to secure a 91-89 victory for the Sharks
after a pulsating game - the second time in 24 hours the Sharks shooter
had come up trumps for a winning basket.
Earlier, Leopards
had led for much of the game, but Sharks bagged a 10-0 run in the fourth
quarter and in the dying seconds of regulation time Nate Reinking scored
four times from the foul line to put Sharks ahead 78-75. A fantastic three
pointer from Leopards star Rico Alderson forced the extra period and although
Sharks' Lynard Stewart scored the first six points of the period, Leopards
fought back until Payne's sensational winning shot.

Brighton Bears moved
up to third in the BBL Championship Southern Conference table courtesy
of a 79-78 success at home to Milton Keynes Lions on Sunday evening. Nick
Nurse's men had to come from behind to claim the win, as a 14-5 second
quarter tear saw the Lions leading 33-21 early on. Lions extended their
lead to as many as 17 points at 72-55 and 78-61 in the fourth quarter.
However, Bears rallied and kept Milton Keynes scoreless for the final six
and a half minutes, while netting 18 points themselves. That put them ahead
79-78 and then Lions' Andrew Alleyne missed a jump shot with only seconds
remaining that would have won
the game for the
visitors. Albert White was the star man - the Brighton star led all scorers
with
27 points.

Kinder London Towers
took the spoils 84-81 in a pulsating BBL Championship game against Newcastle
Eagles on Sunday evening. Towers led for most of the first half and with
three minutes to go in the third quarter Towers looked to be well in control
at 65-56. However, Eagles hit back strongly and scored the next eight straight
points to trail by just one point - 65-64 - heading into the fourth quarter.
The game remained nip and tuck in the final period, but with 25 seconds
remaining Robert Youngblood put Towers ahead by one point at 82-81 with
two foul shots. Eagles had the chance to hit back again, but Youngblood
stole the ball from Malcolm Leak and John White scored on the buzzer to
seal the win for the Towers. White bagged 18 points for Towers, but TJ
Walker led the way with 20 for Newcastle.

Chester Jets ensured
that they finish the group stages of the BBL Trophy top of Group A with
a perfect 5-0 record, thanks to a 114-91 success at home to Thames Valley
Tigers on Sunday evening. A spate of three pointers saw Jets take a 34-18
first quarter lead and they then began the second quarter with a 9-0 run
to lead 43-18. Tigers slowed the Jets down and actually kept them scoreless
for four and a half minutes in the second period, but could only managed
six points themselves in that spell and trailed 58-32 at half-time. Jets
kept up the pressure in the second half to secure the win. John Thomas
led Jets scoring with 29 points.
