Edinburgh
Rocks racked up their biggest score of the BBL Championship season so far
last night
against Newcastle
Eagles. Unfortunately for Kevin Wall's men, they also conceded their largest
tally as well, dropping out of the Northern Conference play-off spots after
a 123-105 defeat at
Meadowbank.
Defence was a rare
sight from the Rocks whose disjointed play allowed Newcastle to pile on
the
points as they surged
ahead for good early in the second quarter with an 8-0 burst despite a
knee injury to Malcolm Leak. Trading basket for basket at maximum velocity,
the visitors stayed in front to lead 68-54 at half-time.
With Eagles point
guard TJ Walker pulling all the strings en route to a team-best 32 points,
Edinburgh only briefly
found a response but folded again in the final period to concede a ninth
defeat in ten games.
Ted Berry fired 36 to pace the Rocks but it is the manner in which his
side
once again failed
entirely to display any spirited resistance which will concern Wall most.
Chester Jets maintained
their 100% record to retake top spot in Group A of the BBL Trophy by beating
Leopards 98-87 at the Northgate Arena.
Chester hit the first
eight points of the game and weere comfortably 53-39 ahead by half-time.
The hosts had a scare in the fourth when their 18 point lead was whittled
down to eight points as the Leopards hit a 2-12 tear to open the quarter.
A three from John Thomas and a basket from James Hamilton restored the
lead to double figures and the visitors never got closer than nine behind
down the stretch.
