ended their run of four consecutive defeats to register an emphatic 111-76
victory over Derby Storm. Newcastle were in command of the game from the
start with the first 17 points as they held Derby scoreless for the opening
six minutes of the contest. Newcastle netted five straight threes in the
third period - three of them to Jeremy Hyatt - as they kept Derby at arms
length throughout. Shawn Myers led all scorers with 29 points.

Thames Valley Tigers
re-established their four-point gap at the top of the Southern Conference
with a 97-84 victory over Brighton Bears. The Tigers had bursts of 11-0,
6-0 and 9-0 all in the second quarter to open up a commanding 54-31 lead.
With Randy Duck and Sterling Davis in fine form, the Bears closed back
to 82-77 four minutes from the end, before top scorer Eric Burks made the
game safe from the foul line and Barry Bowman iced the win with a three-pointer
on the buzzer.

bounced back from defeat on Saturday night to claim their first win of
the BBL Trophy campaign with an 88-83 victory over Manchester Giants. Manchester
led until Leicester scored the last basket of the third quarter to take
a 69-67 advantage into the final quarter. Riders then kept in front until
Rick Mickens had the chance to tie the game at the line with two minutes
left. He missed both, however, and three triple-plays by Billy Singleton
sealed the win for the Riders. Singleton led all scorers with 25 points
whilst Mickens had 20 for the Giants.

Sheffield made it two wins from two in the BBL Trophy following their 96-74
success over Kinder London Towers. A 14-2 start to the second quarter by
the home side put them in the driving seat leading 39-27. A 17-3 tear in
the third quarter by the Sharks made the game safe and was completed by
three consecutive three-pointers from Iain McKinney, who was perfect in
five attempts behind the arc. Peter Scantlebury led all scorers with 23
points, while Terrell Myers had 18 on his first return to Sheffield since
switching to the capital over the summer.

kicked their trophy campaign off with a win at Edinburgh Rocks. The home
side started well with ten unanswered points putting them 18-8 ahead, before
the Lions bagged the last eight of the first half to take a lead they would
never lose. Milton Keynes' lead peaked at 71-54 and though Ted Berry (29
points) hit the last 13 Rocks points of the game it was not enough. Jason
Siemon seemed back to his best after his shoulder injury with 25 points
for the Lions.
