There was
no joy for Edinburgh Rocks on their visit to coach Kevin Wall's former
club, Derby Storm, in the BBL Championship as the Midlands side grabbed
their first victory of the campaign at Edinburgh's expense.
Roy Gardner led all
scorers with 18 points but in vain as the hosts squeezed out a 65-64 victory,
sealed when both Brendan Graves and Ryan Huntley failed to convert in the
final seconds after Derby had grabbed a precious lead through Kevin Griffin
with 40 secods left.
Peterson paced the
victors with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
In the other Championship
tie, London Towers' 72-93 victory over Manchester leaves the Giants
with the final winless record in the league. Silas Cheung scored all Towers
points in a 10-2 run for the
visitors which put
them 41-30 up and in front for good.
John White and Clyde
Ellis paced their respective sides with 24 points.
Chester start
Trophy defence with win
Holders Chester Jets
got their Trophy defence off to a winning start as a 31 point haul from
John Thomas paced his side to a 107-87 win at Brighton Bears. The hosts
broke open an early stalemate with eight unanswered points but Chester
out-scored their opponents 36-17 in the seocnd quarter and a 15-5 run in
the third sealed the tie. Albert White hit 19 for Brighton.
Thames Valley Tigers
routed Leicester Riders 80-102 but were made to sweat despite a 16-2 burst
in the opening stanza. Leicester - sparked by a gamebest 25 point haul
from Jermaine Brown - roared back to life with a 13-2 run which levelled
matters at 39-39 but an Eric Burks trey on the half-time buzzer restored
Tigers cushion and they were never bettered again.
Mike Martin celebrated
his England call-up with a team leading 22.
