Birmingham weather the Storm

Derby Storm 80 (15,36,56) (Griffin 35, Robinson 19, Kennedy 10)
Birmingham 83 (14,30,60) (Bailey/Johnson 26, Paternostro 11)

In Saturday night's BBL Championship action, Birmingham Bullets warmed up for their NEBL debut with a 80-83 win at Derby Storm. However Lance Randall's side, coming off a nine day lay-off, made heavy going of their ill-fancied hosts who were able to include fit-again Bryan Balser for his first match in six months.

After a tight first half, Birmingham started the third quarter with 10 of the first 12 points to take
control. Storm rallied admirably in the final period to level at 75 with a minute to go, but Bullets edged home with a 8-2 burst. Kevin Griffin led all scorers with 35 for the Storm while Rashod Johnson scooped 26 on his Bullets debut.

Leicester Riders 92 (22,44,69) (New 16, J Brown 13, Blalock 12)
Newcastle Eagles 114 (25,49,86) (Myers 29, Walker 21, Flournoy/White 17)

Leicester Riders' miserable start to the season continued as Billy Mims' champions fell 92-114 at home to Newcastle Eagles.

Eagles led for much of the game but made the decisive move around the final break. A 3-20 burst from the guests to finish the third and start the fourth put paid to Riders chances. Shawn Myers led the way with 29 for Newcastle while Michael New replied with 16 for the hosts.

Sheffield 107 (33,65,79) (Phoenix 27, Reinking 22, Scantlebury 18)
Manchester Giants 81 (24,42,65) (Ellis 25, McDonald 15, Leahy 14)

Sheffield went top of the Northern Conference with a 3-0 record after humbling Manchester 107-81. Unanswered bursts of 10, 9, and 7 points by the Sharks in the first half ensured them of a 65-42 lead at the break from where they never looked back.

Former Giant Justin Phoenix was a thorn in the side of his old club with a game high 27 points. Clyde Ellis led winless Manchester on 25.
