Sharks upset Towers chase
Sheffield Sharks set up a uni-ball trophy
semi-final tie with Chester Jets, thanks to a thrilling 74-70 success over
holders London Towers.
As you would expect from two of the top
teams in the BBL Conferences, this quarter-final was extremely close. For
the most part, the two sides remained neck and neck in the first half.
Sharks netted seven unanswered points midway through the third quarter
to edge out to a 51-45 lead and then kept their noses in front early in
the fourth quarter.
However, a 6-0 tear in the final period
put Towers right back into it at 61-64 and from there the game was decided
from the foul line, with Terrell Myers bagging three of four free throws.
When Eric Taylor lost the ball with just six seconds remaining the game
was safe for Sharks.
Nate Reinking led the scoring for the Sharks
with 20 points, but it was Towers' Steve Bucknall who led the game's scoring
with 23 points.
