Lions worn down by dogged Tigers

Thames Valley Tigers came from behind to set up a uni-ball trophy semi-final game against Newcastle Eagles with an 86-81 success over Milton Keynes Lions.

Nigel Lloyd's men started the brighter and led 12-5 in the first quarter, but it was Tigers who finished off the quarter the better, netting 11 straight points to lead 22-19 going into the second quarter.

But it was the Lions who struck back strong in the second quarter, with a 9-0 tear putting them up 42-34. Lions maintained their advantage in the third quarter, but Tigers would not give up and netted eight consecutive points at the start of the fourth quarter to take the lead at 59-56.

When Tigers then went on a 10-4 run later in the quarter, they were able to build up a nine-point lead that Lions managed to claw back to three at one point, but could get no closer.

Lions' Andrew Alleyne led the game's scoring with 21 points, while Tigers' duo John McCord and Kelvin Robinson each bagged 20 points.
