Tigers defeated BBL Championship Southern Conference winners, London Towers,
on Wednesday with a 105-98 home win in Bracknell but the game was marred
by an incident apparently initiated by Tigers centre Simon Ogunlesi.
The Bracknell club
suspended the English player indefinitely following a review which followed
the contest.
Tigers were still
without Tony Christie and Lee Walker, but still established a 53-48 half-time
advantage. The capital outfit responded with 15 unanswered points to take
the lead at 67-70, but when Tigers hit an 8-0 run to lead 87-83, the tide
turned and they were not to trail again.
With the hosts' advantage
out to 91-85 with four minutes remaining, Ogunlesi and Towers' Kendrick
Warren were ejected following an incident in which the home player allegedly
head-butted his opponent.
Warren was seen to
be bleeding, while Ogunlesi continued to visibly challenge other players,
a melee which also resulted in the disqualification of Towers' pair, Steve
Bucknall and Eric Taylor.
Even with his departure,
Warren remained the Towers' top scorer with 22 points, although Tigers'
Greg Meldrum netted a game-high 23 points.
Reports suggest that
the incident was witnessed by BBL chief executive Mike Smith and could
result in Ogunlesi receiving a lengthy ban.
One source close
to the club has alleged that the rookie was accused by a player from another
unnamed BBL side of making a violent threat during a match earlier this
season.
