Westfield
Sharks Sheffield defeated Natural Flow Newcastle Eagles 93-88 at Ponds
Forge on
Sunday evening to
stay top of the BBL Championship Northern Conference.
It was Chris Finch's
100th league win as coach but the evenign truly belonged to Peter Scantlebury,
who broke the all-time scoring record with a 15-foot jump shot nearly 3
minutes into the game, breaking Russ Saunders' record..
He was presented
with a momento to commemorate his achievement immediately after the basket
and went on to net 16 points in the game. However, Nate Reinking
led Sharks scoring with 24 points, including four fouls shots in the final
12 seconds to ensure a Sharks' win.
Earlier, the hosts
- who have qualified for the play-offs - had led 69-66 at the beginning
of the fourth quarter, which they later extended to 68-75. Eagles kept
it close, but could not get past the Sharks, despite a game-high 26 points
from Tony Windless.
