Westfield Sharks Sheffield have a Boxing Day mission for the visit of London Leopards. Win and keep their chances of snatching the best third placed finish and a place in the quartert-finals. Lose, and risk missing out all together.
But despite having already guaranteed their passage to the last eight, Leopards coach Bob Donewald hopes that his team will have gained their place already.
“Hopefully, when we get to this game, we will have already qualified and I can get the bench a good run-in so that we can just have a nice Boxing Day laugh, getting the guys up and down and having a good workout,” he said.
“Hopefully, we won’t have to worry about the pressures of trying to qualify. Having said that, if we do lose to Chester and we do lose to Brighton, when he head into Sheffield, it’s going to be make or break and we are going to have to come up with a win in a very difficult situation to try to qualify. The next two games could really relieve a lot of pressure heading into this game.”
Chris Finch makes it quite clear what his aim is. “Our goal still remains to win our remaining games and then qualification takes care of itself. We would prefer not to leave anything to chance and get into a next-best qualifier scenario.
“There are two games that we have got to win and they come in quick succession, but that’s good we will be able to adopt a must-win mentality for those games regardless. They are against really quality sides [Leopards and Chester] – nothing to be afraid of, but we have to make sure that we are sharp, because the last two times we have played these two teams, we haven’t really done the things necessary to win the games and we had chances to do that, so we have got to correct that.”
