In three
seasons, Edinburgh Rocks have never managed to defeat Sheffield Sharks
and given their current lowly ranking in the BBL, it was little surprise
that the Scots fared no better on Sunday.
The Yorkshire outfit
strolled to a 99-56 victory at Sheffield Arena to complete a season-sweep
over Iain Maclean's side which underlined the gulf between top and bottom.
Sheffield's Peter
Scantlebury hit a game-best 28, enough to make him the first 9,000 point
scorer in the league and after an even first period, his team widened the
gap to 50-32 by half-time.
When Edinburgh gave
up a further eight points without reply in the third quarter, there was
no route back as the Sharks rolled to a simple result despite the absence
of the injured Terrell Myers.
"When you get put
down as severely and as often as we are, it becomes soul destroying," admitted
Maclean. "In the first quarter I though we were more disciplined and played
with more energy. I thought this was going to be one of the nights where
we could compete but it wasn't to be."
Jo-Jo Chambers led
the Rocks with 18 while Mike Payne added 21 for Sheffield.
