Edinburgh
Rocks posted their lowest ever scoring tally on Wednesday night, slumping
to a humiliating 97-46 loss at Westfield Sharks Sheffield in the BBL Championship.
Having failed to
obtain work permit clearance for their new signings, and with the release
of guard Jerrell Bowman, it was always likely to be difficult for the Scots
to compete with the Northern Conference leaders who were in total control
throughout the match.
An early 16-2 spurt
sent Sheffield into a first quarter lead and they continued to punish the
Rocks under the basket, their advantage growing to 30 by the interval.
The visitors added only nine points in the subsequent period, Sharks maximising
their lead at 90-33 with seven minutes left to underline the rout.
"I expected to get
beat but not like that," said coach Greg Lockridge who is likely to cut
centre Chris Junge prior to Saturday's televised match with Milton Keynes.
"We didn’t get off
the mark all night. When you only have seven guys, things like this
can happen. We don’t have the pieces in place but we will get them and
go from there."
17 points from Ted
Berry and 15 for Keith Bunyan provided Edinburgh's only scoring threat
while Zac Bennett led the victors on 20.
