Edinburgh Kings finally lost their tag of knock-out bridesmaids after winning the American Airlines Scottish for the first time on their seventh final appearance at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on Sunday.
They defeated Troon Tornadoes 64-63 in dramatic fashion, their captain Laurie Costello scoring the clinching, controversial basket from the free throw line with just 0.7sec left.
Costello, who top-scored with 25 points, was adjudged to have been fouled as he launched a last desperate shot to prevent the game going into over-time but Troon bitterly disputed the decision.
Troon, down 11-15 after the first quarter, recovered to lead 45-34 just after half-time, but Kings were back in the lead 47-46 in a pulsating match.Top scorer for Troon, who had the consolation of winning both the under-21 and cadet men's trophies, was Ross Campbell with 21, brother Ewan adding 11, while Andy Pearson had 13 and brother Tom 12.
Grant Flockhart had his best game of the season for 16 for Kings, Derek Frame adding 14.
Midlothian Saints overwhelmed Denny Phoenix 56-18 in the women's final to complete the domestic league and knock-out double.
Denny Devils won both junior and cadette cups; while Troon upset St Mirren 81-77 to win the junior men's cup, St Mirren however winning the cadet.
