Ehlers hauls Newcastle
to Trophy win
Last season Manchester Giants came up short
in the final of the uni-ball Trophy. This term's Giants may be a different
side but it was the same result against Newcastle at Telewest Arena in
the first group game of this year's competition, the Eagles running out
93-79 victors.
The game was delayed by 35 minutes, but
it didn't stop the Eagles from getting out of the blocks quickly to lead
33-18 at the end of the first quarter. But an eight minute spell without
scoring saw Manchester net 20 without reply and close to within six.
Brian Ehlers, though, helped steady the
ship and led all scorers with 29 as Tony Garboletto's men pulled clear
in the final 15 minutes.
Justin Phoenix and Juliis Joseph netted
22 apiece for Manchester.
