London Towers
became the first Southern Conference side to book their spot in the BBL
playoffs after defeating Newcastle 97-98 in a dramatic clash at the Telewest
Arena.
Travel problems forced
the game to be delay by 90 minutes but Towers edged the first half and
led
54-59 at half-time,
before a third-quarter charge by the hometown Eagles saw them leading 80-79
heading into the fourth quarter.
In a close final
period, Randy Duck netted what proved to be the winning basket with 37
seconds remaining, to take his tally to 25 points, and although both sides
had chances to increase the score, the hosts could not find the mark.
Towers Kendrick Warren
led all scorers with 26 while TJ Walker and Donnie Johnson hit 22 each
for Newcastle.
