London Towers concluded their three-game series of NEBL games in Lithuania with an 83-67 defeat at the hands of 1999 European champions Zalgiris Kaunas. The British side were without their inspirational captain, Steve Bucknall - after he picked up an injury while on international duty midweek while teh hosts played minus former Leopards and Manchester star John White.
However despite White's absence, Zalgiris dominated this game, leading 42-23 at half-time and maintaining their advantage in the second half as well to leave Towers heading home with one win to show for their trip..
"We knew how Zalgiris would play, but their Khizhnyak was the factor that destroyed our game," admitted coach Nick Nurse.
"In 24 minutes, he blocked 3 shots, grabbed 8 rebs and made our players to change the shooting arc on some further 6-7 occasions. That was really too much.
"Yesterday we had a great game against Lietuvos Rytas and that was a step forward. Tonight we had a worse game, but it was not that bad to be a step back. The NEBL experience is great for our young players who lack international experience. We are just learning, and I hope next time it will go better for us."
Eric Burks was the Towers best scorer with a game-high 18 points.
