Lietuvos too strong for Towers

London Towers continued to struggle in European Competition losing out 96-79 in Lithuania against Lietuvos Rytas on Saturday night.

The BBL outfit stayed with their hosts equally for the first five minutes to tie 10-10, but then the Baltis side jumped on an unanswered 11-0 run to create a solid 15 points lead after the first quarter

The Towers the left themselves a mountain to climb trailing 52-39 at the interval but worked hard to trim the advantage to just 3 at 69-66 with 12 minutes remaining.

"We dig ourselves in a big hole in the first two quarters," said Towers guard Randy Duck who had 17 points in his second game back.

"Later in the game we have started to climb out, but too much was lost. We had to spend a lot of energy to make it a 5-point game and couldn’t find some more when the game was on the line".

The Lithuanians however had other ideas soon restoring a double figure advantage before running out comfortable victors.

Towers coach Nick Nurse was realistic in defeat.

"Before the game I knew we would have to deal with the team, which can run and shoot extremely well. And as you saw, the Vilnius club proved all my awareness. Our big men couldn’t catch up with the up-tempo style and we got down by 15 points before the break. But I am satisfied the way the team played in the second part of the game. They were fighting till the final seconds and that’s the attitude you have to have in this League".

Kendrick Warren top scored in the game with 24 points.
