Towers get hot in Baltic opener

Kendrick Warren hit 23 points as London Towers got their Baltic excursion off a winning start in Thursday by defeating Siauliai 78-86.

Towers were without Ronnie Baker and Steve Bucknall as well as Martin Henlan who travelled with the team but couldn’t play due to illness.

The Londoners played the more aggressive game, out-rebounding the Lithuanians 22-11, and they enjoyed success from three point range making 5/9 against only 1/11 from the hosts.

Nick Nurse's side built a 16 points lead in the first half and after the break a 3-point-shot from Eric Taylor put the BBL side up 36-59, their biggest margin in front.

Although Siauliai ralied to come within seven late on, the result was never in danger as Taylor added 17 for Towers. The home side were led by Rolandas Vaiciunas with 20 points.

"We started extremely well and the outside shooting wa a big difference," said Nurse.  "Fortunately we played the zone defence from the very beginning and it helped us a lot".

Siauliai coach "The biggest problem was the defence and a very
aggressive style of our rivals. I can’t remember such an inaccurate shooting, we missed 23 shots out of 25 attempts."

Towers now meet Lietuvos Rytas and Zalgiris this weekend.
