Mohawks, Inter-Basket set up Final meeting
Holders Teesside Mohawks moved into their third successive NBL Men's National Trophy Final, to be played on January 7th at Sheffield Arena, with a 98-107 win at Oxford.
Mohawks led the Devils 42-50 at the half and maintained their lead through the final two quarters to run out winners by an eventual 9 point margin.
"We're all thrilled to have reached our third final in a row," Teesside Coach, Tony Hanson said. "Oxford gave us a tough game tonight but in the end our
extra quality shone through."Top scorers for the victorss were Ralph Bucci and Corey Jackson both hitting 31. For the Devils Ondreu Choutka hit 21 and Todd McNeil 14.
Oxford coach Bill Baker was proud of his players.
"We gave it our best shot, we've had a great run in the Trophy this season and we have nothing to be ashamed of."
Inter-Basket London will be the Mohawks' final opponents after they upset the form book by winning 74-79 on the road at Worthing.
The capital outfit led 36-50 at the half and held off the Thunder fightback to run out winners by an eventual five point margin. Top scorers for Inter Basket were Rodney Alexander on 22 and Lee McCarthy on 11. For Thunder, Vandale Thomas hit 28 and Gaylon Moore 21.
Inter-Basket Coach, Joe White said: "We're delighted to make it to Sheffield
for the Trophy final next month. Our league form has been disappointing but
this is a really big win for the club."Worthing Coach Ian Chylinski responded: "We're very disappointed to lose,
especially with home advantage - I guess it just wasn't to be our night.
