NBL continues shake-up

The new National League structure for the 2001-02 season has been agreed by the NBL's ruling council.

Changes to the league include expanding the NBL Conference to ten teams, the growth of Division One and geographical conferencing to form Division Two North and South in both the Men's and Women's competition. It was agreed that next season Women's Division One would consist of 10 teams competing nationally.

The clubs also advised England Basketball to make a step to initiate NBL finals at a venue away from the traditional Wembley final venue.  The proposal could include a final four for NBL Conference clubs and finals for all the other Senior divisions.

However Oxford Devils - Division One champions of last term - were left disappointed. The club have been told that their promotion to the NBL Conference has been rejected after they failed to meet the EBBA's funding criteria.
