East Durham take Under 20 crown

The NBL Under 20 game promised to be a good one as the pace of the Ealing Tornados looked to challenge the height of East Durham Academy. It was less than a week since the Juniors from these two clubs faced each other in the final of the RAF Final Fours. It was Ealing that opened the scoring only for Paul Butler to reply with a three for East Durham. An 8 - 0 run for the Tornados in the fifth minute of the first quarter helped to open out the lead and it closed 24 - 14 to Ealing. A scrappy start to the second quarter saw both teams struggle to make any points and it was not until the fifth minute that the game started to get going again. It was another 3 from Butler that opened up the game and East Durham fought back. Ealing worked hard to fend off the fight back and despite seeing their lead fall to just three points, a 3 pointer from Ealing's Walid Mumuni closed the quarter 41 - 34. East Durham opened the third with a 9 - 0 run to take a two point lead and the game tightened. Some great play from both teams saw a tied score going into the final quarter. Once again East Durham were strong scoring the first four points of the quarter only for Mumuni to fire from the three point line to close the gap. The quarter was close with each team scoring in runs. East Durham edged ahead in the ninth minute and there was no looking back as East Durham closed out the game 77 -71 to take the title of Under 20 Men Play Off Champions. Ealing’s Pierre Henry Fontaine scored a game high 35 points
