Arrows perfect as Tigers crash out
Following the opening weekend of play off action, NBL Conference favourites, Plymouth Raiders beat Sutton Pumas 98 – 68 with Terrence Durham making 14 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists. Andrew Powlesland led the scoring for Sutton Pumas with 29 points. Worthing Thunder progressed to the semi final where they will meet Teesside Mohawks following victories over Solent Stars (115-96) and InterBasket London (86-78) respectively. Worthing players, Cory McGee and Paul Mundy-Castle made 70 of the 115 points with Gaylon Moore adding 27.
Teesside Mohawks came from behind in the fourth quarter to seal their place in the semi finals. Once again it was Ralph Bucci (19) with Andrew Bailey making 23 for the visitors. Manchester Magic saw off Coventry Crusaders with a convincing 29 point victory, 82 – 53 and will face Plymouth at the Velodrome on Saturday.
Spelthorne Acers caused the biggest upset of the weekend in Women’s Division One Play Off Quarter Finals, beating league runners-up Thames Valley Lady Tigers 75 – 55 at Bracknell SC. Ipswich Bobcats also won away with a 102 – 80 win over Nottingham Wildcats.
Kingston Wildcats displayed the form that saw them win last seasons Play Offs travelling to Westminster Warriors and winning 74 – 67. Reading Rockets will meet the Wildcats in the semi finals after a twenty point win over Liverpool and Oxford Devils will join the competition at this stage when they face Cardiff Clippers who beat Birmingham Aces 99 – 75.
Stockport Lapwings went the full length of the country to the home of Women’s Division Two favourites, Plymouth Racers to return to the North West with a 69 – 65 over time victory.
NBL Division Two Men finished their regular season this weekend with Derbyshire Arrows closing out the season undefeated as they beat Mansfield Express 98 – 80. Northampton Neptunes ended the season on a high with a 82 – 72 win at Brixton Topcats. Ware Rebels took third place in the Division and will have home advantage over Doncaster Panthers on Saturday. Doncaster Panthers missed out on a win over second place Ealing Tornados despite taking them into over time at 76 – 76. Final score 94 – 87. Other ties see Taunton Tigers at Ealing Tornados, Mansfield Express at Derbyshire Arrows and North London will travel to Hull.
After a close finish in NBL Division Three Men Bristol Bombers will host Birmingham Uni, Worcester Wolves face Brighton Cougars at UC Worcester, Thames Valley will meet Nottingham SNC with Dudley Bears at home to barking & Dagenham.
