Devils prove Worthing's Trophy nemesis
Round Up

An exciting weekend of Trophy action saw Oxford Devils continue to do well and go to the top of Pool C after upsetting Worthing Thunder. Teesside continued to dominate Pool A with a win over Manchester Magic in a game that saw 29 three points shots from the two sides.

Kingston Wildcats failed in their bid to stay at the top of Pool D losing to Inter-Basket 104 – 92 whilst the other two teams in their pool faced each other twice with Coventry victorious over Westminster both home and away. Pool C had just one game with Plymouth Raiders starting their Trophy campaign with victory at Solent Stars in a game that saw Todd Cetnar hit 41 points for the visitors.

The National Shield Competition saw Division Three Birmingham University emerge victorious over Swindon Sonics of Division Two despite a 35 point haul from Swindon’s Steve Claringbould. NBL new boys Worcester Wolves and Dudley Bears beat fellow Division Three newcomers Northumbria and Derby Storm respectively to advance into the next round. Doncaster Panthers fought out a close game at Bristol winning by 72 - 76 after being down at the half.

UWIC Steelers Cardiff, Brighton Magic, Doncaster Panthers, Plymouth Racers and Tyne & Wear all advanced in the NTL Women’s National Trophy. Women’s Division One had just one fixture that saw Sharon Castanada dominate the boards and top score with 24 points to lead Sheffield Hatters to a 57 – 72 victory at Ipswich Bobcats.

Sheffield Hatters second team added to the teams successful weekend with a 74 – 67 victory over Tyne & Wear in the Women’s National Trophy.

Next week sees more Pool Matches in the Men’s Trophy whilst elsewhere the NBL League competition resumes with a London derby in Men’s Division Two as North London host Brixton and Tyne and Wear make the long road trip to Brighton Magic in Women’s Division Two.
