Milton Keynes
Lions went level on points with second-placed Leopards in the BBL Championship
Southern Conference, thanks to a 96-88 overtime success over Thames Valley
Tigers, a result which puts Tigers out of the play-offs and puts Birmingham
in.
The Tigers were again
without John McCord, Lee Walker and Tony Christie because of injury, but
Lions had personnel problems of their own too, as player/coach Nigel Lloyd
was absent because of a family bereavement.
Despite the absentees,
Tigers' remaining players stepped up and troubled Lions plenty. However,
it was Lions who led 86-78 in the closing minutes, before Tigers hit the
final eight points of regulation time, including a Mark Jackson bucket
with 12 seconds left, to tie the game at 86-86 and force overtime.
However once in the
extra period, Lions dominated and outscored the Tigers 10-2.
Lions' Merrill Brunson
led all scorers with 27 points, while Simon Ogunlesi bagged 23 for Tigers.
