London Towers
survived a late Milton Keynes Lions onslaught to book their place in the
NTL National Cup Quarter-finals, running out eventual victors 81-83 at
Bletchey.
The Lions suffered
a terrible start, as player/coach Nigel Lloyd picked up four fouls inside
the first three minutes and they trailed 34-48 at the interval. However,
some fine shooting from Merrill Brunson and Jason
Siemon got them
back into the game and cut the arrears to just one point at 81-82 with
20 seconds remaining.
However, Lloyd turned
the ball over on their final offence to hand the game to Towers. Siemon
was the game's leading scorer with 23 points, just one point more than
England international Steve Bucknall who scored 22 for Towers.
