Amid all
this chatter about which is stronger - the Northern or Southern Conferences
- there's really only one answer.
London Towers.
Having demolished
Chester with a clinical display last weekend, Nick Nurse's men dealt out
a similarly supreme treatment to Sheffield on Saturday, sweeping the Sharks
aside 93-77 at Crystal Palace to edge close to cliniching the divisional
title.
Towers led for much
of the game - they started well with a 9-0 tear in the first quarter, but
Sharks rallied and kept it close in the second period. However, Sharks
scoring dried up in the third quarter and Towers enjoyed an 11-2 run to
pull out a double figure lead at 55-44.
Sheffield hit back
with a 14-5 run in the fourth quarter to reduce the deficit to 70-63. But,
it was not quite enough and Towers sealed the game with 12 points from
the charity stripe in the closing minutes, Martin Henlan and Kendrick Warren
each pouring in double-double contributions
"It's still premature
to give us the Southern title," said Nurse. "But we don;t really care about
that to much. We just want to try to win every game and this team happens
to be pretty good at it."
London's Steve Bucknall
was the game's top scorer with 24 points, Terrell Myers firing 20 for the
vanquished side..
