London Towers
extended their lead at the top of the Southern Conference by beating second-placed
Pertemps Bullets Birmingham 94-79 at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre
on Sunday, an ideal warm-up for the hosts Euroleague starter against Frankfurt
on Wednesday.
After a close opening
quarter, Towers turned the game in their favour with a superb second quarter,
outscoring the Bullets 21-6.
The visitors rallied
in the third quarter, thanks to some good play by their captain, Chris
Watson and guard Virgel Cobbin.
However, it wasn'
t enough, as Steve Bucknall and Jerry Hester took control down the stretch,
Hester ending with 20 points behind Kendrick Warren who notched a game-high
23.
Watson and Brant
Bailey led Bullets with 20 apiece, their side's defeat leaving Towers with
the sole unblemished record in the South.
The one disappointment
for Towers on the night was an injury to debut boy Eric Burks who pulled
a hamstring in the second quarter and
played no further
part.
