Leopards
won a marathon BBL Championship game with Brighton Bears, defeating Mark
Dunning's valiant visitors 110-99 after double overtime at Brentwood on
Sunday.
The result came despite
injury-hit Leopards - without Rod Brown and Kojo Mensah-Bonsu because of
knee injuries - being down to four men for the last three minutes of the
game, after Gareth Davies fouled out.
The game was close
throughout regulation time, the rivals tied at 22-22 at the close of the
first quarter and rarely separated by more than four points thereafter.
Kevin Wallace and
Rashod Johnson each netted two free throws in the final minute to tie the
game at 80-80 and Jason Kimbrough then missed a three on the buzzer, resulting
in overtime.
Kimbrough made amends
with two free throws 0.53 seconds from the end of the first overtime period,
which tied the game at 88-88.
In the second period
of overtime, Leopards' four men went on a 6-0 run to lead 100-93, an advantage
they never relinquished.
Rashod Johnson led
all scorers with 31 points; Wilbur Johnson added 30 for the Bears.
