Leicester
Riders picked up their first success at home to Thames Valley Tigers since
1996, with this 103-98 victory at Loughborough University, a result which
strengthened the hosts play-off challenge and which leaves the out of form
Tigers only two points off the bottom of the Southern standings.
However, the
win did not come easily - the game was close and tense throughout. Tigers
led 23-18 after the first quarter and 47-43 at half-time, but seven unanswered
points from the Riders saw the home side into the lead at 55-54.
A three pointer from
Greg Meldrum and two from Mike Redd, who finished the game with seven threes,
put Tigers back into the lead at 71-72.
Their advantage was
extended to four points at 73-77, before two break away dunks from Larry
Johnson tied the score at 77-77. Ultimately, a 9-0 Riders run in the final
period proved decisive and helped them to the win.
Johnson top scored
with 28 for Leicester, while John McCord scored 26 for Thames Valley.
