London's Euro trip
ends in defeat
London Towers first campaign in Europe's
top flight had no happy ending at Cystal Palace on Thursday night, the
capital outfit slipping to a 61-93 drubbing to Greek side PAOK.
A 22-5 tear by the visitors in the second
quarter broke the Towers resistence and saw PAOK leading 42-34
at half time. PAOK kept up the pressure
in the second half and when Towers netted just 11 points in the final quarter,
PAOK's margin of victory was increased. Valeri Danieko was PAOK's top scorer
with 20 points, but it was Towers' Kendrick Warren who led the way in the
game with 21 points, his team finishing with a disappointing 1-9 record
in fifth place.
Barcelona finished on top of Group D with
a comfortable 51-68 victory at last-placed Frankfurt while Buducnost
secured second place with a 77-73 defeat of Verona in Yugoslavia.
