Victories
have been scarce for Edinburgh Rocks this season but the Meadowbank outfit
picked up their fourth BBL scalp of the season on Saturday, defeating Derby
Storm 98-92.
Inevitably the encounter
between the league's two worst teams lacked drama but not effort, the Scots
clearly motivated to end their slump as they raced into a nine point lead
in the first quarter.
They would never
trail again against a Derby side which missed their top player Barry Bowman
and although Storm guard Jermaine Brown fired in a superb 45 points tally,
it was not enough. The Rocks took a 47-40 cushion into the half-time break
and stretched their advantage to 14 before a late rally from the visitors.
"We have to take
heart from that," said coach Iain Maclean, whose side was led by 37 points
from Ted Berry. "Everyone contributed and we can go into the final five
games with more confidence."
