Edinburgh
Rocks delivered their best showing of the BBL season on Sunday night, taking
a 83-76 victory over Derby Storm at Meadowbank.
The Scots, who were
without injured Ted Berry, trailed only briefly early on, a 9-0 run around
the first quarter break enough to put them ahead for good.
Up 40-30 at half-time,
Edinburgh's advantage was extended still further, peaking at 17 points
with 1:11 left in the third period.
Although the guests
finished strongly, they could not overhaul the deficit as the Rocks took
a win which lifted them into sixth place in the Northern Conference, ahead
of the Storm.
"We put in a great
effort tonight and showed a lot of passion," said Canadian star Chris Webber.
"It was a team effort, our first in a while. We put pressure on them which
seemed to throw them out off track."
Rock Winston led
the Scots with 22 points, while Barry Bowman notched 18 for Derby.
"Potentially we have
good chemistry but right now we don't have the quality leadership, the
unity which a club needs to grow," conceded Storm coach Kevin Wall.
"We're still learning
each other and that came through negatively tonight. We didn't approach
the game right. Maybe we were complacent."
