Newcastle
Eagles bounced back from last weekend's uni-ball Trophy final heartbreak
with a hard fought 94-97 victory over the Derby Storm at the Thunderdome.
The Eagles looked
to have the points in the bag after starting the third quarter with a 21-8
run to take a 71-53 lead however the Storm had other ideas responding immediately
with a 4-23 burst to take the lead at 75-76.
However Newcastle
- spurred by 29 points from captain Tony Windless - restored their advantage
and when Storm duo Joel Burns and Jermaine Brown missed late three pointers
which would have forced the extra period, it was game over.
Brown led all scorers
with 33.
