Having waited
13 games for a win, Derby Storm had every reason to celebrate.
After a season of
misadventure - much of it not directly attributable to either the players
or coach Kevin Wall - the Storm finally broke their club record losing
streak on Saturday night, taking a 103-77 victory over Edinburgh Rocks
in a result which will likely condemn the Scots to last place in the Northern
Conference this season.
The end to the host's
slump was confirmed after an impressive final quarter in which they immediately
raced out to an 11-2 start before adding lustre to their ultimate advantage
with a 13-1 burst to finish.
Ted Berry with 32
and Jo-Jo Chambers on 21 paced the visitors who had recovered from a poor
opening to lead briefly early in the third period.
But the Thunderdome
outfit, led by 33 points from Jermaine Brown and 22 from former Rocks guard
Joel Burns, surged back when it mattered to score a rare positive result.
