Bears continue Giants mastery

Andre Alleyne must really hate people mentioning the Brighton Bears.

The Manchester Giants coach admitted to his embarrassment when his side lost last month to the south coast strugglers and he can have been scarcely less placated when his slumping side repeated the feat on Saturday, crashing 88-85 at the Brighton Centre.

After a relatively even first quarter, Giants dominated the second period and they led 56-41 at half-time.

The hosts fought back and a 13-4 run saw them close the deficit to eight points at 62-70. They cut the gap still further in the final quarter and a Michael Brown basket put Brighton into the lead at 82-81 with just over one minutes remaining.

Giants pulled ahead again, but Demetric Reese and Wilbur Johnson won the game for the Bears in the closing seconds. Reese led all scorers with 28 personal points, while Justin Phoenix was Giants' top marksman with 23.
