The effects
of the longest road trip in the BBL weighed heavily on Edinburgh Rocks
on Saturday night as the Scots, playing their second game in 24 hours,
lost 70-64 at Brighton Bears in a mistake-riddled contest between the worst
two sides in the league.
The hosts, who like
the Rocks prop up their Conference standings, blasted away to an early
lead and were never caught, aided by a game-leading 22 points from Demetric
Reese.
Only in the second
period did the visitors hold their own - restricting Brighton to just five
points in the quarter - as they closed to 27-26 at half-time but despite
a team-best 19 points from Jo-Jo Chambers, Edinburgh could not respond.
Latterly, Wilbur
Johnson's dunk took the hosts into a 60-50 lead but consecutive threes
from Chambers and Keith Bunyan narrowed the deficit to five with 50 seconds
left. Ted Berry hit a late three to close the gap to three points but it
was not enough, leaving Mark Dunning's men with a fifth Championship victory.
"Our decision making
and shooting was very poor," admitted Rocks coach Iain Maclean. "We didn;t
deswrve to win."
