Bullets Birmingham defeated Natural Flow Newcastle Eagles 80-75 in the
first of
Easter Saturday's
BBL Championship Round One games at the Skydome Arena in Coventry booking
a quarter-final tie against Leopards.
Eagles began the
brightest, starting and finishing the first quarter with 9-2 bursts.
Although Newcastle
led by as many as ten points in the second quarter at 31-21, Bullets rallied
to tie the game at 41-41 at half-time and to set up an exciting second
half.
Brant Bailey - scorer
of a game-best 26 points -inspired Bullets in the early stages of the third
quarter, scoring the first seven points of the period to help Bullets to
a 48-41 advantage.
Bailey continued
to impress, as Bullets took a 63-58 advantage into the final quarter. That
last quarter proved tense and close, but when TJ Walker - Eagles's leading
light with 22 points - missed a three pointer with only 18 seconds left
which would have tied the game, Bailey was able to make the result safe
to end Newcastle's season on a low note.
