Rockets blast Oxford for title
The NBL finals began with an upset as Reading Rockets claimed the Division 1 Play Off Championship, ousting regular season kings Oxford Devils 97-82.
The Wembley crowd were on their feet throughout the nail-bitting game, however the strength, skill and determination of Dave Titmuss' side paid off.
The game began with Oxford opening the scoring, however the Rockets guard Hodds replied with a 3 pointer and Reading never looked back. A further 5 points from Hodds and 9 from Damon Cooper contributed to Reading closing the quarter with a 32-19 lead.
The second quarter saw Oxford score a massive 30 points to close the gap to just 6, with the half ending 54-49 to the Rockets.
Both teams came out for the second half with everything to play for in what was proving to be a terrific ball game.
Within two minutes of the third quarter Oxford fans were on their feet as the Devils closed the gap to just 2 points. However 3 pointers from Smith, Cooper and York saw the Rockets pull away and the quarter ended 74-64.
The final quarter was end to end with terrific play from both teams but Reading proved to be unstoppable extending their lead further to clinch their first title.
