Uniball Trophy : Tigers a step closer to quarters

Edinburgh Rocks' uni-ball Trophy ambitions were stalled for the second time in 48 hours by Thames Valley Tigers as the Scots fell 88-83 in Bracknell.

With both sides chasing the two available quarter-final berths from their four-team qualifying group, it was the Rocks who enjoyed the best of the first half exchanges, runs of 0-6 and 7-16 helping them to a lead of 52-42 just before the interval.

But in a virtual repeat of Thursday evening's encounter at Meadowbank, Thames Valley pulled clear with the first eight points of the third quarter, six delivered by Casey Arena, and they extended their advantage to as much as 16 points.

A late 13-2 Edinburgh rally earned the visitors some respectability but victory proved ultimately beyond their reach.

Casey Arena and Greg Meldrum topped all scorers on 22 points and the Tigers move above London Towers at the head of their group.

Joel Burns led the Rocks scoring on 21 points, with ex-Tiger John McCord adding 19 but their team now realistically needs to overcome London Towers home and away to progress further in the competition.
