BBL Manchester rout sorry Sharks
So much for teeing up a last day decider for the Northern Conference title. Manchester Giants went to Sheffield on Sunday and underlined their credentials as the best side in the north with a 59-84 rout of a shell-shocked Sharks side who dropped their first loss in 15 starts.
The hosts managed just seven points in the third quarter as Giants stifling defence delivered a convincing pay-back for their Cup Final loss at the hands of Chris Finch's side in January.
"Our team defence was excellent," commented Giants forward Tony Holley, "that's why we won today."
After a close first half which ended 37-35 in the hosts' favour, Manchester stepped up their defence and finished the third period with a 24-2 spurt - Roy Hairston bagged eight of those points for the Giants, while Todd Cauthorn bagged the Sharks only basket in more than seven minutes of play.
Hairston was the game's top scorer with 24 points, while the Sharks' top marksman was Terrell Myers, who bagged 18 points.
